This Is the Key Difference Between CBD and CBN

The CBD market may reach a whopping $10 billion by 2023.

CBD is in everything from candise to cookies to drinks. But with CBN products starting to come out, how do you decide which is best for you?

Both can be beneficial for the mind and body, but knowing the difference between CBD and CBN can help you choose the right product to use.

Here is a breakdown of what CBD and CBN are and how they are primarily used.

What Is CBD?

Cannabidiols, or CBD, can come from either hemp or marijuana. These plants are part of the Cannabid Sativa category of plants. CBD typically comes from hemp plants, however as they contain more CBD than a marijuana plant.

What does CBD feel like? While it is closely related to THC, your body’s receptors interpret it much differently. CBD will help you feel a sense of calm and relaxation, without any of the psychoactive feelings produced by THC.

These CBD oils have other benefits as well. They can assist with pain relief or help ease anxiety. Some studies have found they may even help with neurological disorders.

What Is CBN?

CBN is short for cannabinol and is derived from the same plant family as CBD. Like CBD, hemp and marijuana plants both contain CBN. The process to derive it is more complicated, however.

Because CBN is more complicated to create, far fewer studies have been completed to unlock its full potential. As interest grows, so too do the studies of what it can do.

CBN has some of the same benefits that CBD has. It’s often used to give you a sense of tranquility and relaxation. It’s particularly used for helping those who experience insomnia or inflammation.

The Difference Between CBD and CBN

While CBD and CBN have similar uses, there are a few differences between the two.

For instance, CBD comes directly from the hemp or marijuana plant. CBN, on the other hand, is primarily created when THC from the plant oxidizes. Producers must either decarboxylate or age THC to create CBN.

Some people use either CBD or CBN for sleeping. However, many are beginning to lean towards CBN as it is thought to have more sedative effects. Since CBD is limited to a more relaxing effect, it can be used at any time of the day.

You’ll also find that CBD is more inexpensive than CBN. This goes back to how the substances are derived. Because CBN requires an oxidation process, it requires more work to derive it in a lab.

Which Is Better?

There is a difference between CBD and CBN, but both have the potential to help improve relaxation and ease inflammation. You may need to try both to see what works best for you. Studies for additional benefits are also ongoing.
